MEET OUR PASTOR
Dr. Floyd Hughes, Sr.
Dr. Floyd Hughes, Sr. is the second child born to the late Deacon Furman and Rosa Bell Hughes. Dr. Hughes was educated in public schools of Denmark, South Carolina and he graduated from Voorhees High School. He also completed further studies as Benedict College Ministerial School, Voorhees College and Morris College School of Religion, and Hampton University. At an early age he joined the Shrub Branch Baptist Church of Blackville, where he served in several capacities. The he severed on the Trustee Ministry, sang on the Gospel Choir and was ordained a Deacon. He was licensed to preach the word of God in 1977 and later was ordained in August of 1978. Dr. Hughes' installation service was in 1980. Dr. Hughes is married to the former Lillie Reed and they have four adult children: Martin (Lillian), Catrena (Anthony), Floyd, Jr. (Shandrea), and Hampton. They have nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dr. Hughes currently presides as the Senior Servant Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church of Blackville, South Carolina.
Under Dr. Hughes' leadership he has been inspirational in starting the following choirs: The F. Hughes Traveling Star Singers, The E.I. Washingtion Inspirational Choir and the Macedonia Male Choir. Dr. Hughes also incorporated the following opportunities to serve: Sunday School - which begins at 9:45 AM every Sunday, Worship Service each Sunday morning at 11:00 AM, Early Morning Service on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month at 8:00 AM, Children's Church Ministry which is held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, Wednesday Midday Service beginning at 12:00 Noon and Bible Study beginning at 6:30 PM
Over the span of the past 30 plus years, Dr. Hughes has also accomplished paying off a 33-year mortgage on the church in 7 years. The church has also been blessed to purchase adjacent and surrounding properties located behind, beside, and in front of the church. In addition to acquiring land; other notable purchases include: grounds keeping equipment, three new buses, a digital marquee, 2 houses and tables for the Food Bank Ministry, mounting of the Church Bell, installation of ramps to make restrooms accessible for all and computers for the church's offices. Dr. Hughes was instrumental in spearheading the Pew Honorarium Project and registering the church as a Historical Marker. In 2015, the MBC Family broke ground and constructed the Macedonia Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Under his leadership - Dr. Hughes started the Delores Bradley Learning Center, the Macedonia Baptist Church Scholarship and the Florrie R. Brooks Scholarship.
Dr. Hughes is a active advocate in the community. He freely gives of his time to the community by involving himself int he following: Senior Citizen's Diner (which is sponsored by the Church Aid Ministry), the Thanksgiving Fruit Baskets for Senior Citizens and the Sick and Shut-In (which is sponsored by the Church Aid Ministry). He also is responsible for outreach of the Secret Santa Project and the Annual Men's Ministry Fellowship and Blood Drive. Dr. Hughes' is a strong supporter of Christian Education and encourages his flock to attend workshops that are offered locally as well as statewide. Dr. Hughes loves his time spent in recreation with Annual Sunday School Trip, Teen Game Night and he an 8th Degree Mason member of Rufus Jones Lodge #615, Pure Heart of Denmark of South Carolina.
He lives by the words of Exodus 14:14, "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
